STOCKHOLM!!

This weekend we took a trip to Stockholm. We left Friday morning & rode the train there. We stayed at the City Backpackers Hostel, which was right next to the main shopping area of Stockholm. It was cute, but very interesting. We met a lot of people. There was a group of boys there from Great Britain, and they were craazzyy--there for a Dodgeball Tournament.  We also met 2 girls from the states, 1 from Texas and 1 from Massechusetts. They graduated from college a few years ago and are both teaching English in Austria.

On Friday we walked around Old Towne-which includes the Royal Palace. We didn't get to tour it because they're open weird hours, but it was huge & gorgeous! We went into the Royal Cathedral, which was gorgeous as well! I would definitely get married there! Old Towne was really nice. At the Palace gift shop I was trying to open this thing of matches to look at them (I don't know why now that I'm thinking about it), but I popped it off and they went everywhere, literally. It was quite hilarious. We also went shopping downtown Stockholm. Stockholm is definitely shopping central. I bought a pair of boots because that's all anyone wears around here & I really want to look like a Swede :) There are H&M's on every single corner! It's ridiculous.

I found this cool Santa thing, which I didn't buy & now wish I would have, that is supposed to protect your home. It's a Swedish Christmas tradition.

On Saturday, we went to Skansen and the Vasa Museum. Skansen was an open air museum that was supposed to represent old time Sweden. They had buildings representing all areas of the country. They advertised that there would be Halloween decorations and activities, but there wasn't any :( The Vasa Museum was of this ship that sank in the sixteenth century, and they've pulled it up whole & now it's in this museum. It was pretty cool, I was more excited about the Titanic Museum...but of course no one else wanted to go in!! I guess I'll have to find one somewhere else!

We also went and looked for the Piano Stairs, but they took them down already!!! We took a sad face picture on the stairs they were originally on. We ate at McDonalds, too. Food is sooo expensive here, and we were starving. Very original to eat McDonalds in Sweden lol.

We came home today (Sunday). The train ride home was hilarious & nerve racking! It ended up being assigned seats, which by the way is impossible to figure out in a foreign country. We eventually figured it out, but I got separated from everyone else for a while...somehow I don't know. But we made it home to do some lovely homework!

I hope everyone enjoys my pictures!

We had to use the map...a lot.

Sarah likes to pose. haha

This is the cafe we were at...not a good picture!

Halloween Celebration

The Opera House

The Dala Horse (I really have no idea what it is though)

The Royal Cathedral (this is when my camera died...of course. Good thing I had a backup!)

The Vasa

A mini inside cut-out of what the ship's workers would have been doing.

Their squirrels are so different! The ears are hilarious. I have a better picture coming up soon!

A warthog. i know this is exactly what you all wanted to see! But we were laughing so hard because it made me think of the Lion King, and then I got made fun of for it!

The Royal Palace

By the riverfront...so gorgeous

There were people kayaking & they were also fishing (some weird type of fishing i guess). It was fraaeeezzzing cold by the way!

The entrance to the Royal Palace & Old Towne

City Hal (which we were originally looking for but found the palace by accident)

Me with the cute guard...we made him laugh haha

Royal Palace front door

Old Towne

So these two guys were the creepiest models ever. They are "supposedly" what the captains looked like that died on the ship. They looked real. Sweat and everything

Literally the longest and tallest escalater I've ever seen. I almost fell, too.

These are costumes from the Dance Museum, which was terrible! lol

We found this store across from McDonalds, definitely belongs at Eastland Mall!!

My first metro "subway" ride. I was informed that it's much nicer than NYC. We decided to ride it out into the middle of nowhere because we were tired...thought we might find something cool, but then I think we ended up in the ghetto. Except it was like Lancaster ghetto (meaning not really anything). Sweden is one of the safest countries to live in the world.

This last picture is for Loren, because I know how much she loves cats!! hahaha
